Strategic Plan
The Institute for Global Health at BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospital (IGH-CW), is a catalyst for reimagining how the world advances the health for women, children, and families around the world.
Anchored in excellence and driven by values, IGH-CW tackles some of the most urgent challenges of our time—from maternal and newborn survival to infectious diseases, health systems strengthening, and equitable access to life-saving care.
It brings together clinicians, researchers, educators, innovators, and global partners to turn cutting-edge science, data, capacity building and care models into real world impact where the need is greatest.

Our vision
A world where children, women, and families everywhere thrive – sustained by resilient and authentic collaborations with our global partners.
Our mission
IGH-CW builds and nurtures the expertise and commitment of a vibrant global community to collaborate on research, education, and care that advances the health and well-being of children and women globally. We support this work by strengthening partnerships, coordinating resources, and mobilizing collective expertise with our partner institutions toward sustained, co-led impact.

Strategic directions
Over the next five years, IGH-CW will strengthen its ability to ensure that women and children everywhere thrive by supporting long-term, partnership-driven Global Health work through focusing on three strategic directions, which guide our six pillars for action.

Framework for action
IGH-CW will organize its work through six interconnected pillars that span education, research, and partnerships. Together, these pillars form a shared framework for action that guides how Global Health activities are organized, connected and sustained across IGH-CW, and collectively advance and support the three strategic focus areas.

Who we are
IGH-CW provides a shared home and is the strategic engine driving for BC Children’s & Women’s Hospital’s global impact. Clinicians, researchers, educators, and partners, work in collaboration through enduring relationships and deep expertise to solve the most pressing health challenges. As a hub, we connect global partners with academic faculty from the University of British Columbia (UBC), the BC Children’s Research Institute (BCCHRI), the Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), Simon Fraser University (SFU) and many others, to strengthen collaborations across institutions to advance global health goals of our partners.
